How has interdisciplinary education helped me in building my career?
I am Shobhna. When I was pursuing my BA (Hons) in Journalism & Mass Comm, my senior advised me to earn a minor degree in Foreign Language. Initially, I was reluctant as it would have added six other subjects to the syllabus and increased my labour. But on hearing the benefits of pursuing a minor degree, like increased chances of getting hired, higher salary, increased chances of career advancement and promotions, I decided to go for it. I learnt French during my graduation years. After the completion of my course, I started working with a reputed news channel. Due to my minor degree in French, I got a promotion and was posted to Luxembourg, where French is one of the official languages. Because I could speak French, I easily got acclimatized to the culture and environment of the new place.
